Anointing of the Sick is available to anyone who is gravely ill, undergoing surgery, or of extreme old age. There is no need to wait until the point of death. In the Sacrament, it is Jesus, through the priest, who touches the sick to heal them from sin. Although physical healing may be hoped for, it is the spiritual healing that is more important. We can love God with a broken body, but not a broken spirit.
